Kambule – Theatre Performance

Kambule is a play written and directed by Eintou Pearl Springer, which reimagines the Canboulay Riots of 1881,  a well known act of cultural resistance against British colonial rule.

Kambule is a vibrant blend of storytelling, oral poetry, drumming, traditional masquerade and dance that asserts the presence of African culture in the Trinidad Carnival. This immersive street theatre performance is an interactive ritual that starts the Carnival weekend and has become a mainstay of Trinidad’s Carnival calendar attracting thousands of tourists, students and the highest office holders in the country.
