Yes we are finally claiming the steelpan, yet  I find there is an oversimplification in just saying the  African drum was banned. The drum was central to our life’s rituals and also part of our spiritual communication technology. That  banning was a further attempt at neutralizing our spiritual power. The steelpan is an instrument of spirit, a defiant calling to our God, a manifestation of our deep desire to no longer fear our divinity or the label Black as Sin.
